Albion Back In Fa Women's Super League Action

By Jake Ketley • 06 January 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion are back in FA Women’s Super League action after their winter break when they travel to Liverpool this afternoon, kick-off 2pm.

The Seagulls take to the field for the first time in three-and-a-half weeks after ending their final match of 2018 with a FA Continental Tyres League Cup match against Yeovil Town.

Albion needed to win the match to guarantee progression to the quarter-final stage, and goals from Ellie Brazil, Dani Buet, Kayleigh Green and Beth Roe sealed the three points to see Hope Powell’s side qualify.

Liverpool ended 2018 in the same competition against Merseyside rivals Everton, losing out 3-1 to the Toffees to consign them to bottom place in their group.

In terms of league form, both teams head into the match without a win since October. Albion’s last success was a 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town on 28th October, whilst Liverpool’s most recent win came against West Ham United one week earlier.

When the two teams met earlier in the season at the Broadfield Stadium, an 85th minute goal from Reds substitute Rinsola Babajide sealed the three points in a match that could have gone either way.

A win for Albion would see them close the gap to just three points behind Liverpool who sit eighth in the FA WSL standings, as Powell’s team look to put some distance between themselves and bottom placed Yeovil.

Albion supporters can follow a live text blog on the Match Centre, with a match report to go online shortly after the full-time whistle.
