U23 PREVIEW: ALBION HEAD TO LIVERPOOL

14 January 2019

Albion under-23 midfielder Max Sanders prepares for kick off.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s play their first away game of 2019 this evening, when they take on Liverpool at the Liverpool Academy in the Premier League 2 Division 1, kick-off 7pm.

Depending on results elsewhere, the Seagulls could reach top spot with victory over the Reds, with Simon Rusk’s team currently occupying third position in the league table, just two points behind leaders Everton.

Albion have taken four points from games against West Ham United and Arsenal over recent weeks, most recently being denied victory late on against the Gunners in a 2-2 draw on home soil.

Tonight’s opponents sit just three points behind the Seagulls, after stringing together five unbeaten matches, but Neil Critchley’s side have drawn their previous two games 1-1 against Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur.

The teams played out a 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season back in August, in what was Albion’s first match in the top flight of under-23 football.

Just five points separate top spot from seventh place after 14 matches, and Rusk’s team will look to extend their unbeaten run to three games and strengthen their push for the PL2 crown.
