George Cox departs on loan until the end of the season.

Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 defender George Cox has joined Sky Bet League Two side Northampton Town on loan until the end of the season.

The left-back, who signed a one-year contract extension with the Seagulls last month, will get his first taste of senior football in the EFL, as he looks to help the Cobblers climb the league table.

Under-23 coach Simon Rusk said, “George has worked extremely hard to get to where he is and thoroughly deserves this opportunity to gain experience at senior level.

“He’s played a number of games in the Checkatrade Trophy against EFL opposition, and that experience should stand him in good stead to play against League Two clubs on a regular basis.

“He’s proved an integral part of our under-23 side over recent seasons, and we wish him all the best at Northampton for the remainder of the current campaign.”

Cox played every league match during Albion’s promotion-winning season to the Premier League 2 Division 1, and has since helped the under-23s to third position in the top flight.
