Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 striker Aaron Connolly has received his fourth Premier League 2 Player of the Month nomination this season, most recently being selected for December.

The Irishman was voted the PL2 Player of the Month for November, and he could retain his trophy after being chosen as part of a five-player shortlist for last month.

Simon Rusk’s team played just two league matches in December, and despite Connolly not adding to his 17 goals already this season, the forward was recognised for his overall contribution to the team.

The Seagulls were narrowly beaten by Leicester City towards the start of the month, but bounced back with a 4-2 victory over West Ham United to end 2018 on a high.

Connolly remains the top goalscorer in the Premier League 2 Division 1, and will be looking to add to his tally when Albion host Arsenal on Monday evening.

The following players provide Connolly with competition for the award — Tyreece John-Jules (Arsenal), Joshua Knight (Leicester City), Rabbi Matondo (Manchester City) and Moses Makasi (West Ham United).

The five-man shortlist was decided by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel, after each Premier League 2 manager nominated the best performance by an opposing player in each of their matches throughout the month.

The winner of the award will be announced on Friday 11th January at 10am.
