Women Preview: Albion Return To Fawsl Action

By Jake Ketley • 10 February 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion return to FA Women’s Super League action this afternoon, facing Bristol City at Stoke Gifford Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

Hope Powell’s side now have the opportunity to focus solely on their league campaign, following the 2-0 SSE Women’s FA Cup defeat against Manchester United last Sunday.

Lauren James's brace ensured the Red Devils progressed to the fifth round, although the outcome could have been different if captain Dani Buet had converted her 78th minute penalty when the score was 1-0.

Albion have had a mixed start to the league in 2019, taking four points from three matches, beating Liverpool, drawing with Everton and most recently losing against Manchester City.

However, the team will take confidence from the last time they played today’s opponents in what was the Albion's opening game of the season.

The Vixens ended up taking the three points courtesy of Lucy Graham’s 71st minute goal in this season's reverse fixture, and City head into the game on a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions, stretching back to December.

During this time they have faced Aston Villa, Birmingham City and AFC Wimbledon in cup competitions, winning two and drawing one, as well as drawing with Manchester City and overcoming Everton, Yeovil Town and Birmingham City in the FA WSL.

This means that the Vixens sit fifth in the standings on 21 points, seven behind the top four, while Albion remain in ninth place above Everton and Yeovil with eight points from 14 games played.
