Richie Towell fires Rotherham United ahead against Sheffield Wednesday.

It was a busy weekend of action for Brighton & Hove Albion’s loanees across Europe, with Richie Towell and Percy Tau adding to their goal tallies, while Ben Barclay and Ben White collected clean sheets in the EFL.

Towell’s 74th-minute goal, his fourth of the season, looked to have secured victory for Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, but Fernardo Forestieri made it 2-2 in the tenth minute of second-half stoppage time for Sheffield Wednesday.

Forestieri’s equaliser, which came moments before his second yellow card of the match, pushed the Millers back into the relegation zone, but Towell’s side are level on points with Reading who sit just outside.

Tau also found the back of the net over the weekend, as he halved the deficit for Union St Gilloise against Roeselare in the 65th minute, but the Belgian outfit were unable to find another goal and now sit fourth in the league table after 12 matches after a 2-1 defeat.

Barclay helped Notts County to their second successive victory in Sky Bet League Two, as former Albion man Craig Mackail-Smith fired the winning goal against Mansfield Town at Meadow Lane — the Magpies are now just two points behind Yeovil Town, who sit just outside the drop zone.

In Sky Bet League One, White tasted victory for the first time when starting for Peterborough United, winning 1-0 at the Kassam Stadium, and Posh now find themselves in seventh position, just one point off the play-off positions.

Elsewhere in Europe, Markus Suttner played the opening 64 minutes in Fortuna Dusseldorf’s 2-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen, while Ezequiel Schelotto featured for the final 17 minutes of Chievo Verona’s 1-0 defeat at Udinese.

Two Albion players were in action in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division — Josh Kerr helped Derry City claim top spot on the opening weekend of the season after a 3-0 victory against UCD, while James Tilley played 63 minutes in Cork City’s 1-0 defeat at St Patrick’s Athletic.

After keeping a clean sheet for Albion’s under-23s against Manchester City on Friday evening, Tom McGill went another 90 minutes without conceding on Saturday afternoon, as Basingstoke Town claimed a 3-0 win against Kings Langley.

Before Albion’s Emirates FA Cup victory against Derby County on Saturday, Tomer Hemed was in cup action for Queens Park Rangers against Watford on the Friday evening, but the Hoops exited the competition and the Israeli played the final 19 minutes of the match.

There were also defeats for Stefan Ljubicic and January signing Tudor Baluta — Eastbourne Borough were beaten 2-0 at Billericay Town, while Baluta’s FC Viitorul narrowly lost 1-0 to FC Politehnica Iasi in the Romanian top flight.

Alexis Mac Allister is likely to make his 13th appearance of the season for Argentinos Juniors this evening, when the South American club, who currently sit bottom of the table, welcome Estudiantes to the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.
