Brighton & Hove Albion striker Kayleigh Green says the side were left to rue a number of missed opportunities in yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United, but feels the team is improving all the time.

Green gave the United defence plenty to think about after replacing Ini Umotong as a half-time substitute, and felt the scoreline was a bit harsh.

She said, “In the first half we were a bit on the back foot, but were a lot better in the second half.

“I came on to stop the centre-halves from driving out and put the pressure on them to make mistakes, which we did well, it’s just unfortunate we didn’t put our chances to bed.

“We’re getting more confident in the final third throughout the season, now it’s just about taking our chances. You don’t get many in a game like this, but when you do, you’ve got to make them count.

“We pressed a lot higher, which gave us a lot more opportunities. Unfortunately, we didn’t take the penalty when we needed it, but 2-0 wasn’t a fair reflection of the game.”

The Wales international looked ahead to Albion’s next game in the FA Women’s Super League, and remained optimistic of getting a crucial result to move further away from the foot of the table.

“The team is getting stronger, and we’re getting more confident. The next game is massive for us, and Sunday’s result won’t define us. Hopefully we’ll get three points in our next game and keep going.

“It’ll be difficult. We played Bristol at the beginning of the season and unfortunately lost 1-0, but we’ve become stronger, confident and fitter since then.

“But we can’t switch off and we need to take our chances.”
