Green: We Showed Determination And Character

By James Hilsum • 21 February 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion striker Kayleigh Green hailed the whole team effort, as the side claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Birmingham City at the People’s Pension Stadium on Wednesday night.

Green netted her first Albion goal to level the scores after Ellen White’s opener for the visitors, before Ellie Brazil scored the second decisive goal for the Seagulls to secure a memorable win.

She said, “It was a strong performance from us. Everyone went on the pitch, knew their individual roles and showed a lot of determination and character.

“When you show that as a team, you come out on top. It was our day, we won 2-1 and got the three points.

“It was very important that we didn’t let their goal define our performance, and it didn’t. We bounced back, stuck to the game plan and it worked. These three points will be massive for us going forward to the next game.”

The striker admits there is still work to be done to preserve Albion’s Women’s Super League status for next season, as she turns her attention a training camp in Spain with Wales.

“We’ve got four games left and we don’t want to get comfortable and think that we’re safe. We still want to keep building.

“We we want to take confidence from this result and take some more points from our upcoming games.

“I’ll now go to Malaga for ten days. It’s going to be hard work, but the most important thing is to go there on the back of a win with Brighton. I’ll hopefully play some games away, stay fit and come back to be ready for the Yeovil game.”
