Brighton & Hove Albion defender says this season’s Emirates FA Cup run is one he’s relished so far.
Chris Hughton’s men booked their place in the last eight with a 2-1 win over derby County on Saturday afternoon, and the Spaniard reflected on a cup sequence which has seen him start every contest so far.
He said, “This competition is special to me, I had lots of friends and family over for the game and I’m really enjoying our run in it so far.
“We had a very good away win to start us off in the third round and then a difficult couple of games against West Brom, where we showed a lot of character.
“It’s really important for the players not in the starting 11 to get the minutes.”
Goals from Anthony Knockaert and Jurgen Locadia gave the hosts the win over Frank Lampard’s side, and the club captain looked back on a much-changed starting eleven for the game against the Sky Bet Championship side.
“I really enjoyed it, the main thing for me is being out on the pitch so I try to enjoy every minute.
“Footballers work all week to be there, we made some changes today, but I thought the team did very well.
“We have really good squad depth and that’s what we’re always looking for – everyone needs to be on top of their game.”
Ashley Cole pulled a goal back late on for the visiting Rams, but Albion saw the match out well to book their place in the quarter-finals – Bruno hinted that he felt the side could have scored more after the restart.
“We knew that they were a good side and that they were expansive in the way they play.
“They’d come from behind in this competition before, but we were really good in the first half.
“During the second we didn’t manage to take as much advantage of our spaces or our chances.
“We knew they were going to take risks and we didn’t make the most of those spaces that they left, but it was a good win in the end."
