Brighton & Hove Albion defender Bernardo attended last night’s ePremier League Club Playoff event at the Amex Stadium, where he spoke about his love for playing FIFA and showed his support for the 32 competitors in attendance.
The Brazilian was joined by team-mate Florin Andone at the Amex, and after two disappointing defeats to the Romanian, he revealed his long-lasting passion for the video game.
“I like to think I’m pretty good at the game. Florin [Andone] is also very good at FIFA. I’ve played against Alireza [Jahanbakhsh] and he’s quite a good player too.
“The first time I was actually on the game, I received a card from eSports and I have it on the wall in my bedroom. For me, it was something that I’d always dreamed about.”
After hours of gaming, Albion season-ticket holders Dan Hilliard [PlayStation] and Ryan Caister [Xbox] were crowned champions, and will now represent the club at next month’s ePremier League Final in London.
Bernardo watched the drama unfold at the Amex, before urging Albion fans to support Dan and Ryan in their quest to become the ePremier League Champion on their respective consoles.
“It’s difficult for me to give them some advice, because they’re better than me, but especially because they’re Brighton fans, maybe they should have the same spirit as the team.
“Always take the games seriously — and even if you’re not the favourite, you never know, you can get a result against another player who is ranked higher than you.
“The club’s fans should support the players. It’s crazy, eSports has become really big over recent years — I’m kind of an amateur, but I know how serious it is.
“It’s a big chance for the club to surprise the other teams and bring a trophy home. Let’s support our guys — I’m sure they’ll do a great job and represent the club in a very good way.”
