DUFFY: WE'VE GOT OUR BELIEF BACK

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy believes the side have got their confidence back after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The centre-back reflected on the blow of Christian Eriksen’s late winner, but feels Albion can take plenty of positives from their gutsy display heading into Saturday’s game at home to Newcastle United.

He said, “We frustrated them all evening, but they’ve got that bit of magic and they got through. It’s quite hard in there [the dressing room], but we’ve got to take confidence from it going into a big one on Saturday, and I feel like we’ve got our belief back.

"We’re not conceding as many goals now and it’s quite tough, but I thought we did well defensively.

“Everyone is disappointed because we’ve got high standards and believed we could get a result, so to concede late on was the cruellest thing, but we've got to believe we can go and win some more games.

“It’s disappointing but the manager said to take confidence from it and take it into Saturday. We’ve got to pick ourselves up and go again.”

Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham means Albion have now gone seven games without a goal, but the Irishman is confident there is more than enough quality within the squad to turn that run around.

“We need goals to win games; we’re just going through a little period where it’s not dropping for us.

“I had a great chance in the second half, and we’ll take any goal at the moment and hopefully we can get back to scoring.

“If we keep it tight, we’re always in the game and believe we’ve got the firepower going forward, it’s just having that little bit of confidence to put it in the net.

“We’ve got top strikers and wingers, and we believe in all of them. We’re excited to get back home in what will be a tough game against Newcastle, but we’re looking forward to it.”
