Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s will make their second appearance at the Hong Kong Football Club Citi Soccer Sevens this summer, a seven-a-side tournament which takes place between Friday 17th—Sunday 19th May.
The Seagulls remained unbeaten in the group stage last year to top their group, but defeats to Cagliari Calcio and West Ham United in the knockout rounds of the Cup and Shield ended Albion’s journey in the tournament.
Simon Rusk’s team will join fellow British clubs Aston Villa, Leicester City, Rangers and West Ham United in Hong Kong, with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham also making their debuts in the three-day tournament.
Academy manager John Morling said, “We’re delighted to be attending the tournament again and feel we benefited greatly from the experience last year. We’re sure this year will once again offer a different type of challenge and overall great experience.”
Albion will join 15 sides in Hong Kong to compete for the Soccer Sevens trophy — three group stages matches will be played before the tournament splits into Cup, Shield and Plate sections.
The draw for the 2019 HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens will take place on Wednesday 17th May. Visit www.hksoccersevens.com for more information.
