An Albion under-21 side take on Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

A Brighton & Hove Albion under-21 side will open their Checkatrade Trophy account this evening against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, kick-off 7.45pm.

Simon Rusk’s team have made an impressive start to their debut season in the Premier League 2 Division 1, as they’ve taken six points and remained unbeaten after four matches.

The Seagulls strung together three consecutive draws against Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, before emphatically winning 5-0 against Manchester City last Friday.

Albion’s participation in the Checkatrade Trophy comes after back-to-back seasons in the competition, however Rusk’s side were unable to reach the knockout stages last time around.

Defeats to MK Dons and Stevenage came either side of a penalty shootout victory against Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium, after the Seagulls came back from 2-0 down against the League One club.

Coventry City, who won the competition in 2017, knocked Albion out in the third round the previous season, after the Seagulls progressed from the group stage and beat AFC Wimbledon in the second round.

Luton currently occupy ninth position in the League One table, following their promotion from League Two, and the Hatters are three matches unbeaten going into tonight’s game.

The match will be the first time Albion have come up against former player Nathan Jones in a managerial role since he left for the Hatters - the defender made over 150 appearances for the Seagulls, before taking up a coaching role at the club.

Albion supporters can follow a live text blog from tonight’s game on the Match Centre, with a report and gallery being uploaded after the full-time whistle.
