Women Preview: Albion V London Bees

By Jake Ketley • 15 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion are back in Continental Tyres Cup action this Sunday, as the team take on London Bees at the Broadfield Stadium, kick-off 2pm.

Last weekend, Hope Powell’s side opened their Women’s Super League campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Bristol City, with Lucy Graham’s 71st minute strike enough to claim victory in the league’s curtain raiser.

Attention now switches back to the Continental Tyres Cup group stage where the team will be looking to pick up their first victory of the season against the Women’s Championship outfit.

The two matches Albion have played so far in the competition have seen the team lose 3-1 to Chelsea, despite giving a good account of themselves during the game.

This was then followed up with a last-minute Ini Umotong equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur to force penalties, as the match ended 2-2. Albion lost out in a dramatic shootout which finished 10-9 to Spurs, who secured an extra point for the penalty win.

Meanwhile, tomorrow’s visitors London Bees managed to win their penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw against WSL side Yeovil Town, before falling to Chelsea 6-1 in their second match. Most recently, the Bees opened their Women’s Championship campaign against Tottenham, losing 2-1.

In the last meeting between the two teams, Albion lost out in stoppage time after Tricia Gould snatched a 2-1 win for Bees.

The cup results mean that Albion currently find themselves in sixth place in Group 1 South with a single point, while Bees are two places above on two points.

Albion supporters can follow the action from the game on the club’s official Twitter feed, with a report being uploaded after the full-time whistle.

Tickets can be purchased on the gate for the match at the Broadfield Stadium, with prices set at £10 for adults, £8 for over-65s/under-21s, £7 for under-18s and £4 for under-10s.
