Women Preview: Albion V Bristol City

By Jake Ketley • 08 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion take on Bristol City this Sunday in the opening game of the 2018/19 FA Women’s Super League season at the Broadfield Stadium, kick-off 2pm.

After being awarded a licence to play in the top tier following an application process back in December, Hope Powell’s side will finally get the chance to test themselves in the top-flight.

Albion lined-up against this weekend’s opponents as recently as last season in the FA Continental Tyres Cup, exiting at the group stage following a 3-0 defeat with goals from Danique Kerkdijk, Lauren Hemp and Yana Daniel.

Whilst this is the first league match of the season, both teams have already been in Continental Tyres Cup group stage action.

The Seagulls opened their campaign with a battling performance, but ultimately fell to a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea. The team then followed that up by coming back from 2-0 down against Tottenham Hotspur to rescue a draw in injury time, before losing out 10-9 in an epic penalty shootout.

Bristol City have faced lower-league opposition in the competition, opening with a 2-2 draw against Leicester City, missing out on a bonus point after losing the penalty shootout. The Vixens then went onto defeat Sheffield United 3-1 in their following match.

Albion supporters can follow the action from the game on Twitter, and a report will be uploaded after the full-time whistle.
