Women Preview: Birmingham City V Albion

By Jake Ketley • 19 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion take on Birmingham City in an FA Women’s Super League match tonight, kick-off 7.30pm.

Hope Powell’s side will head into the game with a renewed sense of confidence, after securing their first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over London Bees in the FA Continental Tyres Cup on Sunday.

Goals from Ini Umotong, Ellie Brazil and Aileen Whelan were enough to see off their Women’s Championship opponents, keeping the Seagulls in contention for a place in the knockout stages.

That match followed the FA WSL opener against Bristol City, as Lucy Graham’s looping long-range effort proved to be the difference.

This evening's hosts Birmingham City head into the match looking to extend their good run of form, which has seen them keep a clean sheet in each of their four matches so far this season.

The Blues opened their season with a penalty shootout defeat after drawing 0-0 over 90 minutes against Manchester City in the FA Continental Tyres League Cup, before overcoming their local rivals Aston Villa in the same competition.

Birmingham then got their league campaign off to a very quick start, as a Charlie Wellings strike after 42 seconds proved to be the difference in their victory over Everton.

Albion supporters can follow the action from the game on the club’s official Twitter feed, with a report being uploaded after the full-time whistle.
