Brazil Delighted To Get Off The Mark

By James Hilsum • 17 September 2018

Ellie Brazil was delighted to score her first goal for the club in Brighton & Hove Albion’s 3-1 victory over London Bees on Sunday, and feels there is still room for improvement from the team.

Brazil nodded home Sophie Perry’s cross to make the score 2-1 in the first half, and the striker admits lessons were learned from her debut in last week’s 1-0 defeat to Bristol City.

She said, “It was important for me to get on my way. It was a good performance from us, but I still think there is a lot more to come and I don’t think we were at our best.

“There were situations last week where I regretted not getting in front of the defender, so I knew I had to do that more often in this game.

“It’s a game where you learn from your mistakes, and it’s frustrating when you don’t get yourself into the right positions to take opportunities.

“Myself and the team as a whole are getting fitter, and that will help us to get into the right positions to score more goals.”

The 19-year-old believes the result provided an ideal response to last week’s disappointing defeat to Bristol City, and felt the game plan was executed well.

“We needed a boost and for the three strikers to get a goal each gives us confidence, especially heading into the next two games.

“We were all very frustrated with what happened last week and it was good to see how well we reacted to it.

“We all analysed the last game, saw what we had to do going into this one and pulled off most of what we wanted to do.

“There’s still more to improve on, but it’s nice to know we can still win 3-1 with a bit left in the tank.”

Albion’s focus now turns back to the Women’s Super League with a match away at Brazil’s former club Birmingham City, and she is confident that the Seagulls can leave the West Midlands with the right result.

“I am excited for Birmingham; I’m not sure how we’ll play, but if we perform like we know we can then we’ll give them a run for their money.”
