Preview: Peterborough United V Albion

By Kieran Cleeves • 09 October 2018

A Brighton & Hove Albion under-21 side will look to get off the mark in the Checkatrade Trophy this evening, when they take on League One opponents Peterborough United at the ABAX Stadium, kick-off 7.45pm.

Despite a spirited performance and Aaron Connolly's late goal, Simon Rusk’s side were narrowly beaten 2-1 at Luton Town in their opening Southern Group H fixture last month.

The Seagulls had previously strung together six unbeaten matches in the Premier League 2 Division 1, but Derby County sealed three points with a stunning strike to win 1-0 at the beginning of October.

Albion’s trip to the ABAX Stadium provides Rusk’s team with an opportunity to bounce back before the international break, as they hope to improve their chances of progressing to the knockout stages.

Connolly leads Albion's goalscoring charts with six goals in nine matches this season, while strike partner Viktor Gyokeres has found the back of the net on three occasions.

Tonight’s opponents drew their opening fixture against MK Dons to secure a point, but the Posh were unable to claim an additional point, as they lost the penalty shootout that followed.

Steve Evans’s team head into the game on the back of three matches without a victory, most recently losing 4-0 to Barnsley on home soil — which knocked the club off top spot in League One into second.

Following tonight’s game, the Seagulls will then conclude their group stage schedule against MK Dons on Tuesday 13th November, as they make their second visit to Stadium MK in as many seasons.

Albion supporters can follow a live text blog from the game on the Match Centre, with a report and gallery being uploaded after the full-time whistle.
