DUFFY: THEIR GOALS WERE TOO EASY

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy felt that the side could have done more to prevent the opposition from scoring in today’s 3-1 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

The Irishman, who was returning to his former club on Merseyside, conceded that overall the Seagulls didn’t do enough to thwart the Toffees in the north west.

He said, “We kept the game tight for spells and we knew we were coming here to play against a good side.

“I think the biggest disappointment for us is the fact that we feel like we’ve let them score easily, because they didn’t have to work too hard for their goals.

“They scored from our corner at the other end but then we did well to get ourselves back into the game – at the break we spoke about how they were going to press, and we got undone.”

Chris Hughton’s side came into the contest on the back of three consecutive victories in October – all of which had been by a 1-0 scoreline, and Duffy reflected on the first goal that Albion had conceded for over five hours of top-flight action.

“We’ve kept clean sheets recently, but nothing majorly changed from our perspective today – they’re in good form at home at the moment and they’re playing well.

“We made a few individual errors but that happens in football, so we have to dust ourselves down and get back to playing our football.

“Our goal was a move we’d worked on during the week, and that’s something the manager is big on.

“We had a couple of things up our sleeve but ultimately we’re disappointed with today and the way we’ve conceded.”

The win for Marco Silva’s men moves them into the top half of the table after 11 matches of the campaign, and the central defender spoke well of his former employers after the contest.

“They’re a team who’ve invested well and have a good manager in charge.

“They have quick and dangerous players in attack and they’re going places.

“They’re obviously also a former club of mine, and I can only say that I wish them all the best."
