Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate netted the decisive winning goal in Swindon Town’s 2-1 Emirates FA Cup victory over York City on Saturday afternoon at the County Ground.
The midfielder’s third of the season was his first on home soil for the Robins this campaign, and it put the home side back ahead after David Ferguson had cancelled out Scott Twine’s early opener for the home side.
Alzate and his team-mates will discover their second-round opponents this evening.
In the Sky Bet Championship, both Richie Towell and Oliver Norwood picked up draws for Rotherham United and Sheffield United respectively.
Towell and the Millers drew 1-1 away to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park – Michael Smith had given Paul Warne’s side the lead 15 minutes from time, only for Bradley Dack to bring the hosts back on level terms six minutes later as the game ended all square.
On Friday evening, Norwood and the Blades drew 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday in the Steel City derby at Brammal Lane.
The Albion midfielder came close to breaking the deadlock in the final few minutes as he saw a free kick well saved by Cameron Dawson in the away goal – the young stopper had also denied David McGoldrick from the spot earlier in the contest as the spoils were shared.
Elsewhere in the same division, Christian Walton and Dan Burn turned out for Wigan Athletic in their 2-0 defeat away to Middlesbrough – Jordan Hugill’s first-half double was the difference between the two sides at the Riverside Stadium.
In Europe, Ales Mateju played the entirety of Brescia’s 4-2 win at home to Verona in Serie B on Sunday afternoon - a brace from Alfredo Donnarumma and goals from Sandro Tonali and Ernesto Torregrossa gave the home side victory as they moved above their opponents and into sixth position in the league table.
Percy Tau and Union St Gilloise lost 2-1 away to top-of-the-table Mechelen on Friday evening – the result leaves the side second in the table and level on points with third-placed Beerschot Wilrijk. Bojan Radulovic was a second-half substitute in Espanyol B’s 1-0 loss at home to Ontinyent.
In non-league, Joe Tomlinson and Bognor Regis Town were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline away to Walton Casuals in the FA Trophy, however Tom McGill helped Greenwich Borough to a 1-0 victory over Bishop's Stortford in the same competition.
