By James Hilsum • 26 May 2018

New Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 defender Joseph Tomlinson reflected on a ‘dream move’ having agreed a deal to join the club on 1st July.

The 17-year-old will link up with Simon Rusk’s side when his current deal expires with Yeovil Town, and feels this is the ideal next step in his career.

He said, “I’m delighted to be able to say that I am a Brighton player and I’ve always dreamed about signing my first contract.

“I learned of their interest very quickly; I came on trial and I am happy that we got a deal done.

“This is the next step in my development, I am really looking forward to it and hopefully I can move on to the next level of football.”

Tomlinson highlighted his attributes as a player and is looking forward to joining the club’s under-23 squad at such an exciting time following their promotion.

“I am an attacking full-back; I like to get forward and score goals, but I also know how to keep my discipline.

“I defend well, I am very good at one-v-ones and stopping goals as well as scoring them.

“I’ve been following how well the team has done; I watched the County Cup Final and it’s great to come at such an important time for the under-23s.

“It’ll be great to play against such great teams following promotion, and it’s just a dream come true.”

The youngster also praised the backing he’s received from Rusk, and has his eyes set on breaking into the first team in the future.

“He’s [Rusk] put a lot of faith in me and given me confidence. I just want to come back in pre-season and show what I can do.

“My long-term aim will be to get to the first team and play many times for this football club.

“We have a great manager here [Chris Hughton] and I've heard that he likes to give youth a chance, so hopefully I will have a chance to work with him in the future.”
