Programme Archive: 2005/06 Season

By Kieran Cleeves • 06 March 2018

The next instalment of home programmes are now available to view on the Programme Archive - as we look back at the 2005/06 season, which sadly ended in relegation from the Championship to the third tier of English football.

The Seagulls only managed four home victories throughout the campaign, but there was a memorable evening at Selhurst Park in October - Paul McShane scored the winning goal in a 1-0 success for Mark McGhee’s team.

Albion had only just survived the drop the previous season, but it was to prove much tougher second time around, as they finished the campaign in 24th position, 12 points off safety.

With the club continuing its fight for a new stadium at Falmer, budget constraints restricted the Seagulls in the transfer market - and McGhee’s side never really found any rhythm throughout the season.

Gary Hart and Paul Reid scored goals in an impressive 2-1 victory over Leeds United at the Withdean Stadium in January, but the Seagulls were unable to build any momentum and the season concluded with a 5-1 defeat to Stoke City.

Midway through the season there was an exciting tie in the FA Youth Cup for Albion’s under-18s, and they ran out 2-1 winners to cause a major upset in the competition in front of a large crowd at the Withdean.
