Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre on Friday.

Charlie Brown, Billy Gilmour, George McEachran and Clinton Mola were all on target for Chelsea, before Danny Cashman netted a consolation for the Seagulls in stoppage time.

Albion created the first chance of the game with nine minutes on the clock through Ryan Longman, as he took advantage of some confusion in the Chelsea defence and fired his shot just wide of the post.

Brown broke the deadlock for Chelsea with 24 minutes played after his initial shot was blocked by Hayden Roberts and he slotted in the loose ball past Tom McGill.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 27th minute when Brown went down inside the box and Billy Gilmour dispatched the subsequent penalty to make it 2-0.

It was 3-0 just 60 seconds later through McEachran, who scored on the volley from just outside the box.

Matthew Everitt had a good chance to get the Seagulls a foothold in the game, only to see his shot rebound off the post past the outstretched Nicolas Tie in the Chelsea goal.

But the Blues got a fourth goal through Mola, who was teed up by Tariq Uwakwe and fired an unstoppable strike past McGill into the top corner.

Albion had the last word on an otherwise disappointing night though, as Cashman prodded home the ball on the line after a mistake from Tie in the Chelsea goal.
