Albion Love The Amex Under Hughton

By Kieran Cleeves • 06 March 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton arrived at the Amex Stadium midway through the 2014/15 Championship season, and during his opening few years on the south coast, the Seagulls have certainly enjoyed playing their football on home soil.

Albion have played 72 league fixtures at the Amex since Hughton was appointed - excluding the play-off semi-final against Sheffield Wednesday - and his players have recorded an outstanding 58.3% win rate over the course of those games.

The Seagulls made a slow start on home soil under Hughton, losing on his opening match against Brentford at the Amex - but a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town got the ball rolling.

The home form excelled in the following two seasons, as Albion lost just six times in 46 league fixtures on the south coast, scoring 86 goals to leave a combined goal difference of +54.

Hughton’s team have continued to show their confidence at the Amex this season, despite losing on the opening day of the season to runaway leaders Manchester City in the Premier League.

Only Liverpool and Chelsea have since got the better of Albion at the Amex so far this season, with the Seagulls recording their first victory over the so-called top six on Saturday - a 2-1 win against Arsenal.

In total, Albion have collected 142 points from a possible 216, scored 121 goals, conceded 68 and kept 29 clean sheets during Hughton’s time in charge.
