Gross Not Resting On Laurels

By James Hilsum • 30 June 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Pascal Gross will not be resting on his laurels after returning to pre-season training.

Gross won the club’s Player of the Season award in an impressive first year at the club, but the German says that will count for nothing going into the new campaign.

He said, “Of course I look back at my first season in the Premier League with happiness and I have enjoyed playing here.

“I had good feedback from my family, which shows I am doing things the right way, but anything can change in football.

“You have to train hard and be well prepared, and it doesn’t matter how well I played last season.

"A new season is starting now; I will never forget that first year in England, but I want to improve as a player and as a person.

“I don’t look too far ahead. I want to keep proving myself and help the team like last year, and we will see what happens.”

Gross is delighted to link up with his team-mates again, and explained how he kept himself ticking over during the summer months as he looks forward to the upcoming pre-season trip to Austria.

“We all had a great summer after we stayed up, and to see all the lads again was really good. We’re all happy to be back.

“Personally I had some rest at the beginning and after a while I did some running, went to the gym and prepared myself for pre-season. I also ensured that I did some core work too.

“The week in Austria will allow us to stay together for one week, and allows us to train very hard and often. It’s very quiet there, but there will be nice facilities and we can concentrate just on football. It will be good for us.”
