Green Excited To Begin Albion Journey

New Brighton & Hove Albion signing Kayleigh Green admitted her excitement to get started with her new team-mates, and believes the Seagulls should thrive on the prospect of playing in the top division for the very-first time.

The former Yeovil Town player signed a one-year deal with the Seagulls, and is now focused on using her top-flight experience to help Hope Powell’s team in their first season in the restructured Women’s Super League.

She said, “I’m looking forward to it. There are some great facilities here - I’ve been speaking to Hope about the way Brighton are looking to play next season and I’m excited by that.

“There’s a great interlink between the women and the men. The facilities are great and everything is under one roof - that’s something that you want as a player.

“It’s great to be part of a club that’s going into the Women’s Super League for the first season - this will be my second season in the top tier, so hopefully I can bring my experience to the team.

“It’s competitive in WSL1, it’s physical and you’ve got top teams - two of them [Chelsea and Manchester City] made it to the Champions League semi-finals.

“It’s difficult in the top league, but I’m really looking forward to getting started with this team.”

Green then highlighted her versatility on the pitch, before reflecting on her visit to Culver Road in October last year, when she scored in a 4-2 defeat for the Glovers in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup.

“I’ve played in a number of positions - I can play at the back, I’m very strong as a centre-back, but as a centre forward I bring a lot of speed.

“I’ve only played as a centre forward for a short period of time, but I’ve enjoyed playing there the most.

“I came on as a substitute with 20 minutes to go and bagged an assist and a goal. It was a cold, windy, late-evening kick-off.

“Brighton put up a strong battle against us, and obviously they came out on top, winning 4-2.”

The new arrival has been impressed with Albion’s progression over recent years, but insists that with more hard work, greater results can be achieved.

“There are going to be some tough games ahead, but speaking with Hope and knowing how the club is, as long as we give 100 percent and work for each other, I have no doubt we’ll do well.

“I played for Cardiff City against Brighton when they were in the Premier League, and then they came second in the WSL2 - the club has grown but it needs to keep building in the WSL.”
