March Pleased With Perfect Present

By Kieran Cleeves • 20 July 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion winger Solly March expressed his delight after committing his future to the Seagulls, and is now focused on helping the club achieve safety in the Premier League once again.

March celebrated his 24th birthday with a new contract on the south coast, and the winger is now looking forward to getting back on the pitch, as the Seagulls prepare for their season opener against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday 11th August.

He said, “I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present. It’s nice to know that I’ve got another four years at the club, and now I can knuckle down and get going again.

“I know that I’ve got four more years at the club, so I don’t need to worry about anything and I can just focus on playing football.

“It’s nice to play for my local club - I was born and raised in Sussex, so it makes it that extra bit special.

“Our aim is to stay in the Premier League again, and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”

March made 36 league appearances for Chris Hughton’s side during their opening season in the Premier League, and although the winger believes it will be tougher to survive, he touched upon the team’s experience.

“We’ve been to all the stadiums now and we know what to expect. We know what the teams will be like and also the atmospheres as well.

“We’re used to all the cameras and everything else that comes with it, so a small bit of pressure is taken off.

“I think it’s going to be harder to stay up this season, but I’m confident that we’re good enough to do that.

“People say you haven't got that buzz in the second season, but we won’t lose that. We’re ready to go and I’m sure we’ll be fine.”

Albion travel to AFC Wimbledon for their third friendly tomorrow afternoon, and March is pleased to have games coming up after a tough pre-season schedule so far.

“You look forward to coming back but after about a week you’re struggling! It’s hard work but you’ve got to put the work in so you’re fit for the season.

“All the players look forward to coming back because after six weeks away from football you start to miss it.

“Once the ball comes out you start to enjoy it. We’ve got a few games coming up and that’s what we look forward to.”
