Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s have been drawn in Group D for this season’s Premier League International Cup, alongside European giants Bayern Munich, Benfica and Everton.

After gaining promotion to the top flight of under-23 football, Simon Rusk’s side will compete in the competition for the first time, instead of taking part in the Premier League Cup.

Bayern Munich, Benfica and Everton all competed in the competition last season, but all three sides were unable to clinch a place in the quarter-finals after playing three games in the group stage.

The Seagulls will join 11 English clubs in the tournament and 12 invited clubs from across Europe, including the likes of FC Porto, who have won the trophy twice in a row.

Albion will play all three of their group stage games in England, as they look to progress to the knockout stages of the 24-team competition.

The teams are split into six groups of four and the group winners will advance to the knockout stages alongside the two best runners-up.

Manchester City remain the only English side to win the trophy, after they beat Porto 1-0 back in 2015.
