Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was delighted with his team’s performance in their 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex, as they coped with a number of injuries and suspensions.

The Blues were missing a number of key players, such as Alvaro Morata and Cesc Fabregas, and Conte felt his team produced a fine display to seal a second victory over the Seagulls this season.

He said, ”It was an important performance. We started very well and scored quickly, with good combinations.

"We started with a lot of worries, for injuries and suspensions, but the response of the team was incredible. I am very happy for this, and another clean sheet.

"It was a really good performance by the team. We moved the ball quickly, we tried to find the players between the lines, to have good combinations. I saw important things, but now we have to continue.”

Albion had two shouts for a penalty in the opening half at the Amex, both involving Ezequiel Schelotto, and Conte believes referees are less generous with awarding spot-kicks in this country.

"I think that in England, for a referee to whistle for a penalty it is very difficult, you don't see it often, for both sides.

“Everyone saw what happened against Norwich. In this league, it happens to all teams. I didn't see the two situations, so I cannot give my evaluation.

"If we can get used to the new system [VAR] very quickly then it can help a lot with big mistakes. The new system can be very helpful, there will be no doubt."

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was substituted after a head collision with Shane Duffy in the second half, and although the defender wanted to stay on the pitch, Conte had an easy decision to make.

“He had a concussion. The player didn’t want to come off but at the same time, when you have players on the bench like David Luiz, it was simple for me.

“It was a simple concussion and the player is okay. He’ll be ready for tomorrow’s training session.”
