Nilden's Pride To Play In England

By Kieran Cleeves • 16 January 2018

New Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Amanda Nilden expressed her delight after moving from Sweden to join the club, as she fulfils her lifelong dream to play football in England.

The 19-year-old became Hope Powell’s second signing in the January transfer window, and Nilden revealed her excitement at arriving on the south coast, after a number of seasons playing in her homeland.

She said, “I wanted to play football in England and Brighton seemed like a good choice. It’s a great club and a good move in my career.

“Since I was little, it’s been a dream to come and play football in England, so this really is a dream come true.

“I’m very impressed with the facilities here, I didn’t think it was going to be like this. I’m really excited to help the team and start playing games.”

Nilden commented on her experiences so far in her career, before speaking of her family’s pride after the Sweden youth international secured a move to the Seagulls.

“I’ve played in Sweden for IF Brommapojkarna and then last season I played for AIK, which is a big club in Sweden, in the second division.

“I’ve played for the national teams since I was 15, right through to the under-19s, but I’m too old for that now.

“I’m fast, smart on the ball and have a good passing range. I play as a wing-back and like to get forward.

“I come from a football family - my father and all of my siblings have played football in Sweden. They’re very happy to see me sign for a team in England.”
