Murray: It Was Close To Being A Winning Performance

By Alex Stedman • 03 January 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray believes that Monday’s point from the 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth was a few aspects short of being a winning performance.

The forward netted in the second half in the game against the Cherries and he revealed that the nature in which the hosts twice surrendered the lead left him a little disappointed.

He said, “Looking back on it it's probably disappointment – we went ahead twice at home and have conceded twice from set-plays, and so that’s something we need to work on.

“Once we settled down after the game, we have to focus on the positives and it’s another team near us where we’ve got a result.

“I thought we attacked and defended well overall, and it was so close to being a very good performance.

Murray’s second-half goal came courtesy of an assist from winger Jose Izquierdo. The Colombian midfielder assisting both of Albion’s goals in the New Year’s Day stalemate and the forward was full of praise for his fellow teammate’s ability.

“He offered us a bit of width in behind and he got a lot of joy down that left-hand side too – he created the goal for me as well.

“He’s going to get in behind like that and I have to be there as an option, which I’ll always try to do.

“I don’t think people realise how big of a change it is for a foreign player to come over here, and it does take some getting used to."

The Seagulls have claimed five points from a busy festive period during their first campaign in the top flight, and the striker admitted that the team feel as though they could have got more from both the game against AFC Bournemouth and the trip to Newcastle United two days earlier at the end of 2017.

“It’s our fourth game in nine days over Christmas and maybe in an ideal world we’d have liked a few more points, but we are proving hard to beat still.

“I think the last two matches are ones where we could have possibly got more from, but we have to take the positives – we’ve not let teams around us take points off us.

“On a personal note, I’m pleased to get on the scoresheet because it's been a while, we’ve got a little bit of rest now before the cup game next Monday."
