U23 Preview: Reading V Albion

By Kieran Cleeves • 08 January 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s return to action in the Premier League 2 Division 2, as they take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium this evening, kick-off 7pm.

The Seagulls are seven matches unbeaten in the league - a run of games which has led them to sixth in the division, just one point outside the play-off positions.

Simon Rusk’s team have shared three consecutive 1-1 draws against Norwich City, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with their last league victory coming against Stoke City, as they won 3-2 at the bet365 Stadium.

Albion progressed to the quarter-finals of the Parafix Sussex Senior Cup last week, as Rusk’s side came from behind to clinch a 2-1 win against Haywards Heath Town at the Hanbury Stadium.

Tonight’s opponents occupy fourth position in the Premier League 2 Division 2 table, and head into the fixture on the back of a 1-1 home draw against Southampton.

The Royals also beat Stoke 3-2 at the bet365 Stadium in their most recent league win, and narrowly lost 1-0 against European giants Bayern Munich in the Premier League International Cup in December.

A win for the Seagulls will take them to within two points of Reading, and strengthen their chances of finishing in the top-five league positions, with just eight games remaining after tonight’s meeting in Berkshire.
