Programme Archive: 2008/09 Season

By Kieran Cleeves • 05 February 2018

The season’s worth of matchday programmes from Brighton & Hove Albion’s 2008/09 League One campaign have now been added to the Programme Archive.

It was a turbulent season on the pitch, as the Seagulls escaped relegation after a miraculous recovery towards the end of the season, following Russell Slade’s arrival to replace Mickey Adams as manager.

There was also a giant killing in the League Cup - with Albion recording a famous penalty shootout victory over Manchester City at the Withdean Stadium - before the Seagulls came close to a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley Stadium.

The 23 league programmes were 68 pages in length, packed with a wide variety of news, features and information. Prominent in this was the start of building work at Falmer, starting with the ‘ground-breaking’ ceremony in December 2008.

In addition to the league programmes, the League Cup, Johnstone's Paint Trophy and FA Cup added six to the total, including the memorable night when Manchester City were dispatched on the south coast.

Rounding off the programmes were two friendlies in July 2008, against Charlton Athletic - for Gary Hart’s testimonial - and Ipswich Town.
