Locadia Ready For Albion Debut

By James Hilsum • 17 February 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion Jurgen Locadia is looking forward to donning the blue-and-white stripes for the first time, with the Dutchman set to make his debut against Coventry City in today's Emirates FA Cup fifth round tie.

Locadia featured in the squad for the first time in last week’s draw with Stoke City, and expressed his pride at potentially making his debut for the club.

He said, “I haven’t played against December, so if I have the chance to play Saturday, I’ll be very happy and honoured.

“If I get the minutes from the manager, it will be a crazy feeling for me. Playing in the Premier League and the FA Cup would be a special moment for me, my family and my agent.

“I hope to score a lot of goals, contribute with a lot of assists and bring a lot of energy to the squad. I know what I can do for the team and hopefully my game can fit in with their strategy.

“They play football and I like to play football. I think I can use my strengths well.”

The 24-year-old commented on his recovery from a recent hamstring injury, and explained how his previous experiences have enabled him to come back fitter and stronger.

"I’ve been in this situation before, and when I with PSV I had an injury which meant I was out for eight months. That was a horrible time for me.

“I have more experience now since the last injury, and I have been able to deal with it better. It’s been a good past few weeks; I started training alone with the physio and then in the second week I started with the group. I have had some good training sessions with the team.

“The last game against Stoke was a good one, as we got the ball into some good areas and created some good chances too. That’s the way we need to continue.”

The Dutchman was also quizzed about his record price tag since joining the club in January, and spoke about his initial targets at the club.

“I don’t think about it and it doesn’t cross my mind. I feel honoured, but I don’t worry about the price.

“I don’t know if I will be successful, but I will do everything I can to succeed.

“For now the target is to stay in the Premier League and we will see what happens after that.”
