Ben Hall celebrates with his Notts County team-mates at Meadow Lane.

Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 defender Ben Hall made a winning start to his loan spell at Notts County last night, as a number of the club's loanees were in action across the country.

The 21-year-old played 90 minutes alongside club captain Richard Duffy in the heart of the Magpies’ defence, and helped the League Two side to a 2-1 victory over Carlisle United at Meadow Lane.

Elsewhere, Richie Towell scored his third goal of the season for Rotherham United in their 3-1 victory over Oxford United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

On his 26th league appearance for the Millers, Towell fired home from close range to move the Yorkshire side up the League One table into fourth position.

It was a disappointing evening for Ben White and Newport County, as they went down 5-0 against Mansfield Town at the One Call Stadium.

Christian Walton also found himself on the losing side at the DW Stadium, as Wigan Athletic were beaten 2-0 by Blackpool and slipped into second position in League One.
