Stephens: Let's Go On Another Run

By Adam Powers • 19 December 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Dale Stephens is eager to kickstart another positive run of form, starting with Saturday's trip to AFC Bournemouth.

First half goals from Pedro and Eden Hazard fired Chelsea into a two-goal lead at the Amex last Sunday afternoon, before Solly March halved the deficit after the break, and Stephens looked ahead to the remainder of a tough and hectic festive schedule.

He said, "It's a different task for us compared to Chelsea, but one we're very confident of, and now we have a full week to prepare how to beat them.

"Regardless of their situation and form, we have to prepare in the same way and, importantly, take points away from home if we are to improve on last season.

"We knew Christmas time would be a tough period for us, and the games always come quickly at this time of year.”

"If anything, we do take a bit of confidence from the second-half performance [against Chelsea], which we will take into the game this weekend.

“We're content with 21 points from 17 games, but there's a lot of work still to be done. We're happy with how we've done up to now, and hopefully next week's the start of more points and another good run for us."

The contest against Chelsea was Stephens's 150th start for the club, and the Englishman reflected openly on the defeat, as well as emphasising his current satisfaction with life at the Amex Stadium.

"It's nice to reach a landmark like that. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and hope there are many more appearances to come.

“It's been a long time since I played, with the international break as well, but I enjoyed getting back out there and am already raring to go next week."

“They're a top team, and we surrendered a bit of possession today - perhaps we showed too much respect in the first half.

"We conceded two poor goals from our point of view, but we did ourselves justice in the second half and played much better.

"In the end it was a disappointing result. When you give a top team two goals like that you put yourself in a tough position.”
