Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Emily Simpkins is looking forward to kicking on in 2019, and feels the Seagulls are continually adapting to life in the FA Women’s Super League.

Both Simpkins and Albion have had a tough start to the life in the top flight, and the midfielder is now looking to consign a frustrating foot injury to the past and stake a claim in Hope Powell’s team.

She said, “We’ve been on a journey. We’re a new team just gelling together in a new league, with Brighton getting promoted last season.

“We’re learning and taking it each game as it comes and I do see progression in our performances, especially after seeing it from the sidelines being injured.

“I’ve seen this team progress and for us it’s about believing in ourselves and taking it into the second half of the season.

“Personally, I just want to get back out on the pitch and enjoy my football.”

The midfielder was speaking at Albion’s annual hospital visit to the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, and expressed her amazement at how much the club gets involved in the community.

“We visited Brighton children’s hospital just to give something back. It was great to go to the different wards, pass on presents, and spend time with the children and their families.

“Since I signed here, I’ve noticed that we get involved with so many things. As a community it is important. To have the men’s and women’s teams all doing this as one club is brilliant.”
