Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s game against Liverpool at Anfield, and here are some of the key talking points from his pre-match press conference…

TEAM NEWS: “Lewis [Dunk] hasn’t trained this week, but the good news is that it’s not a bad one. He went over on his ankle, but we don't expect him to be out for a long period of time.

“He’s a tough individual and we haven’t ruled him out completely, but at this moment it would be doubtful. We’re delighted that it’s not as bad as it could have been.

“[Florin] Andone and [Jose] Izquierdo haven't been involved and Bruno missed the last game - they’ll all be missing on Saturday.”

DIFFICULT TASK: “An away game at Liverpool, it doesn’t come much tougher than that. We certainly need to show a lot of the qualities that we showed in last week’s performance.

“The result [against Manchester United] allows us to go to Liverpool with three points. Perhaps it’s a little more daunting if you’ve lost your first two games and your next one is against Liverpool.

“Hopefully we’ll go there with a little more confidence and less pressure. There isn’t anybody that would expect us to win, but we’ve got to approach the game in a manner that will allow us to get something.”

AWAY CHALLENGE: “Fixing and improving our away form is the challenge that we set ourselves going into this season, but you never go into a game thinking about those things.

“Our approach going into every away game is exactly the same - how can we best get a performance?

“You know that against the top six it’s going to be a different type of game, and you know they’ll have the bulk of possession - that will be no different at Anfield on Saturday.

“But there isn’t any game that we go into thinking we can’t get a result. Our home form is what kept us in the division last season, but we need to improve away from home."

LIVERPOOL FOCUS: “It goes without saying that we’re up against a Liverpool team who were very good last season, got to a Champions League final and might have won it had circumstances been different.

“For any team going to Anfield at this moment, with the quality and pace that they’ve got, you know that you’ll have to defend well.

“That will be the basis and we’ll also have to have good periods ourselves. If you’re defending for 90 minutes, then there’s only one outcome.

“We have to make sure we’re a threat ourselves and have good enough periods in the game.

“Everyone is speaking about how well Manchester City have started after winning the Premier League last season, but Liverpool were also a top team and have improved over the summer.”
