Bong Delighted To Be Back In Cameroon Squad

By James Hilsum • 31 August 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Gaetan Bong has returned to the Cameroon squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros.

The game takes place on Saturday 8th September, and could see Bong make his first international appearance since featuring in a friendly against Paraguay four years ago.

He said, “After three years, I’m back. They were calling me and I said okay. It wasn’t a difficult decision because I knew one part of me wanted to play with the national team again.

“We’ve been talking recently and I’ve been waiting for the new manager. [Clarence] Seedorf called me a couple of times and we had discussions.

“I just want to play football and don’t want the politics. It’s never easy, I’m not looking for something perfect - I just want to go there and help.

“I’m very excited. On the first day I signed for Brighton, I said I wasn’t going back to the national team, but I’m now happy to be back.

“I want to play with my country and help them, because we have the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon this summer. I want to be on the pitch, enjoy my football and play with my country. It’s always a pleasure.”
