Albion's Under-18s Taste Tournament Success

By Alex Stedman • 08 August 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s ran out winners of a four-team pre-season tournament at St George’s Park last weekend.

The Seagulls were pitted against Glasgow Rangers, Burnley and Derby County, with a game format of two 30-minute halves consisting of a semi-final and final.

Mark Beard and Mikey Harris’ side faced Burnley in the semi-final, and were 2-0 winners thanks to Danny Cashman’s brace.

Glasgow Rangers beat Derby County 4-0 in the other semi-final to set up a showdown between Albion and the Scottish side – and it was the opposition who took an early lead inside the first minute of the game.

The Seagulls turned it around after the break, as Ben Clarke-Eden levelled the scores from close range, and Cashman then grabbed his third of the tournament as he converted from outside the area.

Jack Spong then added a third after good pressure resulted in Albion forcing their opposition into a mistake in defence before Spong calmly slotted home – there was still time for Rangers to pull a goal back in the closing stages, but Albion held on to take the trophy in encouraging style to round off their pre-season preparations.
