Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Maty Ryan admits that playing in every Premier League game of his first campaign with the Seagulls would be a massive personal achievement.
The Albion stopper has featured in all of the club's top-flight contests so far, and the Australian believes that type of continuity would be a big accomplishment for his first season in English football.
He said, “I’ve played every minute in the Premier League so far - to be able to do that in my first year would obviously be a great achievement for me, because we have a lot of competition between myself Tim [Krul] and Niki [Maenpaa].
“Anybody in any occupation always looks for stability in what they do, so for me, that would be huge.
“I didn’t get that previously – every season until then had seen me play regularly. It’s the norm for me and that’s why I’m at this club.”
When the current Premier League campaign reaches it’s end, Ryan will travel to Russia with his nation to represent the Socceroos in the World Cup – he emphasised that securing top-flight safety would give him a big boost ahead of the tournament.
“I want to contribute in every opportunity I get – we’re so fortunate to be footballers and live the life that we do, and that’s something I never want to take for granted.
“Hopefully I stay fit, healthy and in good form right to the end of the season.
“It’s a big summer for me personally too with the World Cup – if we can stay in the Premier League and go into the tournament off the back of that, then it would be huge.
“I came here to have a full year under my belt at the highest level against the best teams – that was important for me in trying to progress my career.
“To be constantly playing at a quick and physical level and trying to thwart those calibre of players, will only prepare me better for this summer.”
Ryan played his part in the 0-0 stalemate with Roy Hodgson’s men back at the Amex Stadium in November, but didn’t feature in the Emirates FA Cup victory against the same opposition a month later at the same venue.
“Maybe the game was a bit of an anti-climax because it finished 0-0 and we were the home side, so that was a bit disappointing.
“We got some redemption in the cup game but unfortunately for me I wasn’t involved, so hopefully it will be third time lucky for me.
“In terms of winning a derby, winning it away from home would be the best way to win one.”
