Brighton & Hove Albion host Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night in front of the Sky Sports cameras at the Amex Stadium, kick-off 7.45pm.
The Seagulls will be looking to bounce back from the weekend’s narrow 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace, and we’ve picked out five things to look out for ahead of the contest.
HOME COMFORTS
Albion’s form at the Amex Stadium this season has seen the side record nine wins across all competitions and drawing seven. Losses have come against Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester City respectively.
Last time out on home soil, a Jonas Lossl own-goal handed the Seagulls an early advantage, but Steven Mounie equalised for Huddersfield Town soon after to mean that the points were shared.
HISTORIC MEETING
Tuesday evening’s game with the north London side will be the first time Albion have hosted Spurs since the 1982/83 season in the old First Division.
The game saw two last-gasp goals from Steve Gatting and Gerry Ryan cancel out a Graham Roberts first-half effort to hand the home side the win at the Goldstone Ground.
GOOD ON THE ROAD
The visitors to the Amex Stadium come into the contest on the back of a number of good results on their travels in the league recently.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won their last five top flight matches away from home, defeating Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth, Swansea City, Chelsea and Stoke City respectively.
TV AT HOME
Albion have been involved in nine televised games at the Amex Stadium so far this season – and have won two, drawn five and lost just two of those contests.
The victories have come over Crystal Palace in the Emirates FA Cup in January, and against Arsenal in the Premier League back at the start of March.
FAMILIAR FACE
Seagulls boss Chris Hughton plied his trade for Tottenham Hotspur for 11 years between 1979 and 1990.
The Irish international made 297 league appearances for the club, 36 appearances in the FA Cup and 30 European appearances – he played in the 1981 FA Cup final and the replay, as well as returning to Wembley with the north Londoners a year later.
Hughton also played in the 1984 UEFA Cup win, and shared a dressing room with the likes of Glenn Hoddle, Ossie Ardiles, Ricky Villa, Garth Crooks, Steve Archibald, Chris Waddle, Clive Allen, Ray Clemence, Richard Gough and Paul Gascoigne during his time with the club.
