Duffy Satsified With Hard-fought Point

By Alex Stedman • 28 April 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy insisted that the side’s 0-0 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday could prove to be a vital point in Albion’s Premier League campaign.

With both sides cancelling each other out on a tight afternoon in Lancashire, Duffy and central defensive partner Lewis Dunk played their part in helping the Seagulls to a clean sheet.

He said, “I think it was a good battle out there today and we knew what to expect from coming here.

“We knew they’d take the game to us and we’re a bit disappointed we couldn’t create more in the final third, but they’re in their league position for a reason and they’re difficult to beat.

“It’s a positive result on the whole, but we do feel slightly disappointed that we didn’t create much today.”

The result moves Chris Hughton’s men onto 37 points with three top flight matches remaining, and the Irishman believes that the fact that the side still have their fate in their own hands heading into the final week of the season is crucial.

“It’s another point to our total and it makes us that little bit harder to reach for the teams below us.

“We’re always confident and we’ve always known that we are good enough to be in this league.

“We know we have some difficult games coming up but we’re also very confident with our home form ahead of next Friday so we’ll keep believing.

“It’s up to us still and it’s in our hands. We’ll stick to our beliefs and if we keep defending well like we did today, then hopefully that little bit of quality comes in attacking areas and we can pick up some points in the remaining games.”

Albion face Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool in their final three matches starting next Friday night at the Amex Stadium, and the defender wants the side to relish the fixtures against the trio.

“We can take a clean sheet as a positive because that’s our first for a while.

“The last three games are against tough opposition, but we’ve picked up very good results recently against both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

“We’ve got the belief and we’re all confident – we have to go out there and enjoy the rest of our matches and do our best to stay in this league.”
