WHITE DELIGHTED WITH PROGRESS AT NEWPORT

28 September 2017

Newport County AFC
Ben White was named Newport's man of the match.

Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 defender Ben White continued his impressive loan spell with Newport County on Tuesday night, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Crawley Town at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Mickey Demetriou’s brace on the night was enough to send County up into the League Two play-off places, and White is loving his time in South Wales.

He said, “It is amazing – playing and winning games, I love the atmosphere and the crowd that come every week.

“It’s better for me as opposed to playing in front of a much smaller crowd in the under-23s.

“You can hear the crowd during games, and it’s nice when you are really under the cosh because the fans give you so much support.

“The people here have all been amazing, especially the gaffer [Mike Flynn]. A couple of other clubs at this level were also wanting me on loan, but as soon as I spoke to him, I knew I wanted to come to Newport.”

The 19-year-old feels that playing regularly at League Two level has accelerated his development, and he has an open mind about the next step in his career.

“The opponents are all hard, they are all big and can all win headers, which is an area where I need to improve because I’m a player that likes the ball at my feet.

“As for the future, I don't know what happens next season – whether Brighton take me back or I go out on loan again.”
