Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton praised the performance of Pascal Gross after his brace helped the side to a 3-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Gross scored Albion’s first two goals in the Premier League to put the team in a commanding position, and Hughton feels the German has settled in well.

He said, “You never know what you’re going to get [with a player], but it’s about him getting into areas, and if he gets into areas where he can finish, he can do so with both feet.

"I thought he was good value for his two goals, and he got into some really good positions.”

“We singled him out on his strength as an all-round player. I wanted to have options off the front as a number 10 and he gives us that option.

“He was our first summer buy, so we got him at a good time. He's very knowledgeable about the English game, speaks very good English, which has helped from day one, but he is very serious about his football.”

The Seagulls boss also spoke about the game as a whole and was pleased with his team’s possession work against the Baggies.

“We thoroughly deserved it [the win]. It was a difficult end to the game, but that’s normal once they get the goal back.

“It gets very nervy but we coped with their threats well and were very good on the ball.

“You go into each game wanting to play the right way, but they are a tough team and even before the game, we knew they were a side has got better and will have a good season.”
