Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has achieved qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Australia, after their 3-1 win over Honduras this morning.

The first leg in Honduras on Friday evening ended 0-0, but Australia’s win today – through Mile Jedinak’s hat-trick, means that they are the 31st of 32 nations to qualify for next summer’s finals, sealing their fourth consecutive World Cup appearance.

The Socceroos had a lengthy journey to the finals after finishing third in their original qualification group, before beating Syria 3-2 in their first two-legged play-off, ahead of triumphing over Honduras.
