Brighton & Hove Albion defender Sophie Perry is looking forward to facing a number of familiar faces when former club Chelsea visit Culver Road in an FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup fixture tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.
Perry spent eight years with the Blues and featured in the 2012 FA Cup Final, where she was part of the team that lost on penalties to Birmingham City at Ashton Gate.
She said, “It’s going to be a difficult game because Chelsea are flying at the moment and have strengthened their team over the summer.
“There are still a few players I’m friends with that are still there, like Claire Rafferty, Carly Telford and Drew Spence. It will be good to see them again.
“Closer to the game, Raff and I will have a little chat, but once we step onto the pitch, we’ll be enemies!”
The Seagulls began their Continental Cup campaign with a win over Yeovil Town, and Perry feels Albion will head into the game with plenty of belief.
“Beating Yeovil, who are in FA WSL 1, is a confidence booster for us, and that will help us going into the game.
“Facing Chelsea will be a completely different test though - they’ve got England senior players and internationals from Sweden and Switzerland in their team. Hopefully we’ll have a big crowd supporting us on the night.”
WSL season-ticket holders are reminded that cup games are not included in their season ticket, and they must purchase cup tickets if they wish to attend the match.
