The decision was a no-brainer for the midfielder after promotion was secured.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Dale Stephens reveals he had no hesitation in signing a new four-year contract at the club once promotion to the Premier League had been confirmed.

Stephens expressed his happiness at being able to ply his trade in the top flight with the Seagulls, which he admits was a key factor in his decision to sign for the club from Charlton, back in January 2014.

He said, “I am happy to get it done and get it over the line. There have been some long negotiations, but it’s finally done and I am delighted.

“I came to this football club expecting to get promoted in the first few years. It’s taken a bit longer than I would’ve thought, but here we are as a Premier League side and I want to be a part of that and achieve things here.

“Once we found out that we were going to play our football in the Premier League next season, it wasn’t a case of me moving on as I realised I could achieve what I wanted to here, and I am very much looking forward to next season.”

The midfielder explained his excitement heading into the new campaign and is eager to play an eye-catching first match at home, before he switched his focus to the promotion parade this coming Sunday.

“We know it’s going to be tough, and I think the target next season will be to stay in the Premier League. We’ll all be looking forward to it and can’t wait to get started.

“I don’t think it will hit home properly until we do see the fixtures. I know it’s done and dusted and the season has finished, but when you see the games coming up that’s when you see we are a Premier League side.

“We’re going to enjoy it and it will be nice to get one of the big teams at home first up.

“The parade will be brilliant; I expect it to be full of fans and the city will probably be going into shutdown for the afternoon. We can thank for the fans and everyone for last season and have a good day together.”
