Pocognoli's strike is part of a three-goal shortlist.
Brighton & Hove Albion defender Sebastien Pocognoli has been nominated for April’s Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month Award.
The full-back’s audacious free-kick against Queens Park Rangers, which was the winning goal in a 2-1 victory for the Seagulls, has been chosen as part of a three-goal shortlist from last month’s Championship action.
The Seagulls had taken the lead through Glenn Murray, and with Chris Hughton’s team searching for another goal to move them a step closer to promotion, the Belgian found the top corner with a brilliant curling effort from the corner of the penalty area.
It was Pocognoli’s first goal for the club after joining on loan from West Bromwich Albion, and it proved a vital strike as Matt Smith hit back for the hosts in the closing stages.
The 29-year-old faces competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Helder Costa, who showed great skill and balance to find the net against Cardiff City, and Preston North End’s Aiden McGeady, who found the top corner from 25 yards against Huddersfield Town
The shortlist is chosen by a judging panel, which includes Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; Sky Bet Sponsorship Manager David Tweed and EFL Communications Manager Rob Meaden, following suggestions from supporters on Twitter.
The winner of Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month is decided by an online fan poll, and you can cast your vote here.
Voting closes on Monday 15th May at 5pm, with the winner being announced on Friday 19th May.
