The Albion winger spoke at today's promotion parade.
Brighton & Hove Albion winger Solly March reflected on the ‘best year of his life’ after celebrating promotion to the Premier League at the club’s parade.
The 22-year-old capped off a memorable season by getting engaged to his long-term partner Amelia at the start of this month.
He said, “It’s probably been the best year of my life, and there have been a lot of good moments that have outweighed the bad.
“I went to Dubai with the missus while the lads all went down to Vegas, so that went down well with her and I got some good brownie points!
“I proposed in the hotel room after dinner and it was all done nicely.
“After the injury I had, you can go into dark places at times, but to get back to where I am now and to see the club in the Premier League, it's fantastic.
“It’s been a great year so far and hopefully we can make it even better.”
March was full of praise for the thousands of supporters who turned out along the parade route, and admitted the reality of what has been achieved is still yet to fully sink in.
“It was unbelievable; the number of people that turned up was amazing and it was a lot more than I expected. It was a great turnout and shows how much this promotion means to the club, the fans and the city.
“Maybe what we’ve achieved will only start to sink in a few months down the line. Perhaps we’re in a bit of a bubble and it’s only days like this where you realise how big it was.
“The best moment of the bus route was towards the end when the music was playing; there were so many people you just couldn’t see any grass or pavement!”
Albion’s Young Player of the Year is eagerly anticipating the prospect of testing himself in the top flight, against some of the biggest clubs and best players in world football.
“Being a Premier League footballer is an unbelievable achievement and we can’t wait to get started.
“All of the games against teams in the top five or six will be brilliant and we’ll be up against some great players. We can’t wait to test ourselves.”
